Gary Banks gave a keynote address to the Annual Forecasting Conference of the Australian Business Economists in Sydney on 8 December 2010.

Earlier versions of the paper were presented at the Economic Society's 'Emerging Economists' seminar series in Sydney in August, the Department of Transport and Infrastructure's Seminar Series, in Canberra in October, and the WA 'Quarterly Forum' and Australasian Treasury Officers' Conference, in Perth in November.
