About the role

We have opportunities available for Senior Research Economists, Senior Policy Analysts and Senior Data and Research Analysts in the Productivity Commission’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Stream.

Joining our policy or reporting teams, you will have an opportunity to work on matters of importance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including the development of policy recommendations to support improved policy making, reporting governments’ progress towards their commitments under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap and the development and maintenance of the Closing the Gap Information Repository, which tracks progress towards National Agreement targets.

Your experience working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander policy development, program implementation and/or data analysis will be highly valued in this role. We will be looking for you to apply your strong conceptual and analytical skills to prepare high quality research papers, reports and/or reporting outputs and statistical information. You will engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait people, organisations and communities, along with representatives of other government agencies, businesses and organisations.

Academic qualifications are required with a preference in areas such as economics, public policy, statistics or data analysis.

Position eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment with the Productivity Commission, applicants must:

  • be an Australian citizen or hold an Australian Citizenship
  • be willing to undergo a security and character clearance (which may include, but not limited to, completing an identity verification check, police check, and obtaining/maintaining an Australian Government security vetting clearance if required by the role)
  • provide evidence of mandatory qualifications (if applicable).

The filling of (at least one) of these vacancies is intended as an identified position, in which some or all the duties involve the development of policy or programs relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and/or involve interaction with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, including service delivery. To perform these duties effectively, occupants need to have an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with them.
