Proportion of people reporting they experienced racial prejudice in the past 6 months
Nationally in 2022, 60% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 18 years or over reported they had experienced at least one form of racial prejudice in the past 6 months. This is an increase from 43% in 2018.

Measure: | There are two measures for this indicator. Measure 1 is the proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people reporting they experienced racial prejudice in the past 6 months, defined as: Numerator – number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 18 years or over who reported they had experienced at least one form of racial prejudice in the past 6 months Denominator – number of Aboriginal people aged 18 years or over and is presented as a percentage Measure 2 is the proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people reporting they experienced one or more forms of discrimination/racism in everyday life due to being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, defined as: Numerator – number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 16 years or over who were treated unfairly in the last 12 months Denominator – number of Aboriginal people aged 16 years or over and is presented as a percentage. |
