Proportion of people aged 25-64 years who are employed, by occupation
Nationally in 2021, the occupation contributing most to the employment rate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people was community or personal service worker (reported by 9.5% of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people), followed by professional (with 9.1%). Since the 2016 baseline year the employment rate has increased for all occupations groups, with the largest increase for managers (1.3 percentage points).
Across states and territories in 2021, the occupations with the greatest variation in the proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people reporting being employed were professional (ranging from 6.8 to 18.9%) and managers (three to 13.6%) (figure SE8d.1).

Computation: | Numerator divided by Denominator multiplied by 100. Counting rules The data is for all Australian residents enumerated in the Census that reported having a usual residence in Australia. Geographical variables are based on a person’s place of usual residence. Occupation variables are coded using the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations, 2013, Version 1.2 (cat. no. 1220.0) (ANZSCO) (at the major, one‑digit, level).
