Improving the future performance of buildings
Commissioned study
This commissioned study has concluded. The research report was released on 9 December 1999.
Through the Assistant Treasurer, the Department of Industry, Science and Resources sought the Productivity Commission's assistance in undertaking a research study into the current performance of commercial buildings.
The objective of the study, which was not a formal public inquiry, was to assess how current building performance was measured and if overall building cost considerations were adequately incorporated in decision making processes.
In particular, incentives and impediments for incorporating environmentally sustainable features and minimising operating costs were examined. The scope of the study covered the design, construction and on-going maintenance phases of a building's life.
