As part of the broader study on the Relative Costs of Doing Business in Australia, the Australian Government requested that the Productivity Commission:
- undertake a case study of the costs facing businesses in the Australian retail trade industry, such as costs relating to capital, labour, intermediate inputs and regulatory compliance
- where relevant, identify areas of cost advantage and disadvantage for Australian businesses relative to international competitors.
In undertaking the study, the Commission will consult with governments and other interested groups.
