Commissioner Stephen King: Mental health is a key part of Australians health and well-being and suicide is a leading preventable cause of death. In any year, about one in five Australian adults will experience mental illness and more than 3,000 lives are lost to suicide.

Commissioner Selwyn Button: In 2022, governments signed a National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Agreement.

This agreement outlines how the Australian, State and Territory governments will work together to make the mental health system and suicide prevention system sustainable and person centered.

Commissioner Stephen King: Now, the Productivity Commission has been asked to review the agreement and make recommendations to government for improvement.

In our review we want to understand the impact of the mental health and suicide prevention programs and services covered by the agreement on Australia's well-being and prosperity.

Commissioner Selwyn Button: We want to know how the agreement has impacted individuals, families, and carers, and welcome ideas and practical examples of how services and the system can be improved.

For this review we want to hear from anyone with an interest in or has been affected by this topic. Your insights will be vital in an effective review of the national agreement.
