This lecture was delivered by Her Excellency Dr Mari Elka Pangestu. Dr Pangestu has been Indonesia's Minister of Trade since 2004. She is also lead Indonesian negotiator at the World Trade Organization, and is currently Chair of the G33 coalition of developing countries.
Dr Pangestu's previous positions include membership of the Governing Board of the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, Jakarta and Program Coordinator for the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC). From 2002 to 2004, she was the Co-coordinator of the Task Force on Poverty and Development for the United Nations Millennium Project.
Dr Pangestu obtained a Bachelor and Master of Economics from the Australian National University and a PhD from the University of California, Davis. She is a specialist in international trade and finance, focusing on ASEAN, China, and the Asia Pacific. She has published widely in Indonesian and international journals.
