The Productivity Commission in conjunction with Monash University today released the Proceedings of the eighth Industry Economics Conference held in Melbourne on 12-13 July 1999. The theme of the conference was Regulation, competition and industry structure.

The conference provided researchers from academic, industry and government backgrounds with an opportunity to discuss interactions between regulatory arrangements and industry structures.

The proceedings contain 16 theoretical and applied papers that provide an overview of recent developments in Australian industry regulation, examine East Asian industry structures in the light of the recent crisis and investigate the influence of regulation on Australia's telecommunications and rail industries. The Proceedings also list the 32 contributed papers presented at the conference.
